The dive site:

Nurse Rock is located less than 3 miles offshore of Mooloolaba, and as the name suggests is the site to see Grey Nurse sharks. During the winter months of the year, this reef site becomes a transitional home for the endangered Grey Nurse Shark. Often observed in groups circling the rock topography, this species of shark is not aggressive and provides fantastic opportunities for the underwater photographer and videographer. With lovely boulders to explore and small swim throughs, this site is also a great spot to search for invertebrates including nudibranchs and crustaceans. You will also encounter large schools of surgeon fish, tropical fish and the occasional turtle cruising through. Winter diving brings in clear visibility ranging from 10 to 20 meters, and depths at the site vary from 14 to 30 meters catering to both beginner and advanced divers.

On your arrival to Sunreef, we will check you in and see that your gear is organized, whether you prefer one of our staff to set up for you, or you would like to do it for yourself. After we verify all paperwork is in order, settle any balances, site divers’ certification cards, and ensure gear is organized, we'll then depart out to our local reef site. Each diver will be given a thorough briefing about the dive as the boat traverses the calm waters of the Mooloolah River. After a short 20 minute boat ride out to our reef site and the boat is anchored, the crew will help get divers into the water. The dive will last for 50 minutes, or as soon as a diver or their buddy reaches 50 bar, whichever comes first. The divers then return to the shop, where gear is washed for you. Upon returning our staff will take you upstairs into the classroom to debrief with some hot wedges, and drinks and discuss your shark interactions.
